3-way fight likely for MCA Youth chief post
PETALING JAYA (Aug 6, 2013): MCA Youth is likely to see a three-cornered fight for its top post in its year-end election.
Apart from the favourite candidate, national Youth Education Bureau chief Chong Sin Woon, two division youth chiefs, Datuk Goh Gaik Meng (Batu) and Tan Kok Eng (Bandar Tun Razak) are expected to join the fray.
It is learnt that incumbent Youth vice-chief Yoo Wei How, who was earlier tipped to contest the position, would focus on defending his central committee (CC) post in the parent body instead.
A party source told Sin Chew Daily that with Yoo leaving the wing, Chong's chances of winning the post have increased.
“Yoo and Chong belong to the same camp, it is unlikely that they will contest against each other.
“If Yoo is re-elected to the CC, there is a good chance that he may be reappointed as organising secretary.
“Chong will be the favourite, given his positive image, the good publicity he got in handling educational issues and the fact that he is Youth chief and Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong's handpicked successor,” said the source.
However, the source added that should the wing's professionals bureau chief Datuk Chua Tee Yong decide to join the contest, the son of party chief Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek is almost assured of victory.
“But it is believed that Tee Yong will leave the youth wing to contest a senior position in the parent body.”
